Raja Ravi Verma Print Of Krishnaraja Wodeyar IV (Maharaja of Mysore)

2 In Stock

This print of Krishnaraja Wadiyar, the subject of numerous portraits he painted under its sponsorship, is part of the Ravi Varma collection. This print shows the monarch in full regalia, posed against a background with elements of an interior scene and a view of his palace beyond it. The ruler was first depicted by the artist as a baby, then later as a Maharaja with his new bride. Ravi Varma compensated for losing a little of the subject's vitality by using "...the opulence and precision of clothes and jewellery while seizing on authentic details that linked the subject of the painting with the actual surroundings or with specific architectural elements that related to those surroundings," even though he painted some of these portraits from photographs rather than sitting with the subject.
