This is portrait Mughal painting of Mumtaz Mahal from the Mughul dynasty. Mumtaz Mahal was a talented poet as well as a skilled archer. She and her husband enjoyed watching elephant fights. She must have been well-read in the sciences and literature in classical languages, as she sat atop a marble pavilion by the River Jumna, engaging in calligraphy and painting. Women were builders and architects in Mughal harams. Mumtaz Mahal designed one such garden in Agra, and it has withstood the test of time.
